The following suggestions of how to customize webpages apply to any site that you visit. However, you may find that not all pages within a site are compatible. The instructions apply to fonts only; images on the screen will not be affected.

Customize Text Size and Color

Chrome (PC & Mac)

1. On a PC, from the Chrome menu, select ‘Settings.’ On a Mac, from the Chrome menu, select ‘Settings,’ or ‘Chrome,’ ‘Preferences,’ or via the keyboard, Command+Comma (,).
2. On the Settings screen, under ‘Appearance,’ select the font size and font face (under Customize fonts).

Note: Chrome does not provide the means of changing text and background color. There may be extensions for Chrome available; visit the Chrome Web Store.

Firefox (PC)

1. From the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Options.’
2. Under ‘Language and Appearance,’ select ‘Fonts and Colors.’
3. Select the Default font and size. Select ‘Advanced…’ to select ‘Proportional,’ ‘Serif,’ ‘Sans-serif,’ and ‘Monospace’ font faces and sizes. Select ‘OK.’
4. Select ‘Colors’ to set the text and background colors, visited and unvisited link colors and other color settings. Select ‘OK.’

Edge (PC)

1. From the menu, select ‘Settings.’
2. Select ‘Appearance,’ then select the ‘Font size.’
3. Select ‘Customize fonts’ to select the font face for ‘Standard,’ ‘Serif,’ ‘Sans-serif,’ and ‘Fixed-width’ fonts.

Note: At this time, Microsoft Edge does not provide the means of changing text and background color.

Internet Explorer v11 (PC)

1. On the ‘Tools’ menu (or the gear icon in the upper right corner), select ‘Internet Options.’
2. On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Accessibility.’
3. Select each of the three checkboxes.
4. Select ‘OK.’

Safari (Mac)

1. To increase the font size, press Option+Command+Plus sign (+).
2. To decrease the font size, press Option+Command+Minus sign (-).
3. You can alternatively go to the ‘View’ menu and hold down the Option key while you select ‘Make Text Bigger’ or ‘Make Text Smaller.’

Note: Safari will remember your settings until you clear your history.

Change Text Font

Chrome (PC & Mac)

1. On a PC or Mac, from the menu, select ‘Settings.’
   Additionally, on a Mac, from the Chrome menu, select ‘Settings,’ or ‘Chrome,’ ‘Preferences,’ or via the keyboard, Command+Comma (,).
2. On the Settings screen, under ‘Appearance,’ select ‘Customize Fonts.’
3. Select the ‘Standard,’ ‘Serif,’ ‘Sans-Serif’ and ‘Fixed-width’ fonts.

Firefox (PC)

1. From the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Options.’
2. Under ‘Language and Appearance,’ select ‘Fonts and Colors.’

4. Select ‘OK.’

Note: Safari does not provide the ability to control the fonts used.

1. On a PC or Mac, from the Google Chrome menu, select ‘Settings.’ Additionally, on a Mac, from the Chrome menu, select ‘Settings,’ or ‘Chrome,’ ‘Preferences,’ or via the keyboard, Command+Comma (,).
2. On the Settings screen, under ‘Appearance,’ then ‘Font size,’ select one of the other Font sizes: Large, or Very Large.
3. You can alternatively select ‘Customize Fonts.’ Then, using the slider, select the ‘Font Size,’ and ‘Minimum Font Size.’

1. From the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Options.’
2. On the ‘General’ tab, under ‘Language and Appearance,’ and ‘Fonts and Colors,’ use the size dropdown to increase the text size.

Edge (PC)

1. From the ‘Settings and more’ menu, select ‘Settings.’
2. On the Settings screen, under ‘Appearance,’ then ‘Font size,’ select one of the other font sizes: Large, or Very Large.
3. You can alternatively select ‘Customize fonts.’ Then, using the slider, select the ‘Font Size,’ and ‘Minimum Font Size.’

Internet Explorer v11 (PC)

1. Select the ‘View’ menu.
2. Select ‘Text size.’
3. Choose the size of text.

Safari (Mac)

Note: Safari does not provide the ability to control the fonts used.

Change Text Color and Background Color

Chrome (PC & Mac)

Note: Chrome does not provide the means of changing text and background color. There may be extensions for Chrome available; visit the Chrome Web Store.

Firefox (PC)

1. From the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Options.’
2. Under ‘General,’ then ‘Language and Appearance,’ then ‘Fonts and Colors,’ Select the ‘Colors…’ button. Select the Text and Background colors. Select ‘OK.’

Edge (PC)

Note: At this time, Microsoft Edge does not provide the means of changing text and background color.

Internet Explorer v11 (PC)

1. On the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Internet Options.’
2. On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Colors.’
3. Deselect the option ‘Use Windows Colors.’
4. Select the color picker next to ‘Text’ and select a color.
5. Select ‘OK’.
6. Select the color picker next to ‘Background’ and select a color.
7. Select ‘OK’.

Safari (Mac)

Note: Safari does not provide the ability to control the colors used.

Zoom

Chrome (PC & Mac)

1. On a PC & Mac, from the Google Chrome menu, under ‘Zoom,’ select the Plus sign (+) button to zoom in, and the Minus sign button (-) to zoom out.
2. Additionally, on a Mac, from the ‘View’ menu, select either ‘Zoom In’ or ‘Zoom Out.’
3. Via the keyboard, on a PC, you can press Control+Plus sign (+) to zoom in, and Control+Minus sign (-) to zoom out.
4. Via the keyboard, on a Mac, you can press Command+Plus sign (+) to zoom in, and Command+Minus sign (-) to zoom out.

Firefox (PC)

1. From the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Zoom,’ then ‘Zoom In’ or ‘Zoom Out.’
2. Alternatively, you can press Control+Plus sign (+) to zoom in, and Control+Minus sign (-) to zoom out on the keyboard.
3. You can also zoom text only (instead of zooming the entire screen, including images). From the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Zoom,’ then select ‘Zoom text only.’ Now, when ‘Zoom In’ or ‘Zoom Out’ are selected from the menu, or press Control+Plus sign (+) to zoom in, and Control+Minus sign (-) to zoom out on the keyboard, only the text will be zoomed.

Edge (PC)

1. From the menu, under ‘Zoom,’ select the Plus sign button (+) to zoom in, and the Minus sign button (-) to zoom out.
2. Alternatively, you can press Control+Plus sign (+) to zoom in, and Control+Minus sign (-) to zoom out on the keyboard.

Internet Explorer v11 (PC)

1. From the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Zoom,’ then either ‘Zoom in’ to zoom in, or ‘Zoom out’ to zoom out.
2. You can also select a specific percentage of zoom.
3. Alternatively, you can press Control+Plus sign (+) to zoom in, and Control+Minus sign (-) to zoom out on the keyboard.

Safari (Mac)

1. From the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Zoom In’ to zoom in and ‘Zoom Out’ to zoom out.
2. Alternatively, you can press Command+Plus sign (+) to zoom in, and Command+Minus Sign (-) to zoom out on the keyboard.

Prevent Graphics from Appearing

Chrome (PC & Mac)

1. On a PC & Mac, select the Google Chrome menu button, then ‘Settings.’ Additionally, on a Mac, from the Chrome menu, select ‘Settings,’ or ‘Chrome,’ ‘Preferences,’ or via the keyboard, Command+Comma (,).
2. Select the Settings menu, then select ‘Advanced.’
3. Under ‘Privacy and security,’ select ‘Site Settings.’
4. Under ‘Permissions,’ select ‘Images.’
5. Unselect the ‘Show all’ option.

Firefox (PC)

1. Type ‘about:config’ into the browser web address bar. When the ‘Proceed with Caution’ message appears, select ‘Accept the Risk and Continue.’
2. Select ‘Show All.’
3. Type default.image into the Search filter box. Look for the preference ‘permissions.default.image.’ Select the pencil icon to edit this preference.
4. Change the value to ‘2.’ Select the Save (checkmark) button.
5. Close the browser tab.

Edge (PC)

1. From the menu, select ‘Settings.’
2. Under ‘Site Permissions,’ select ‘Images.’
3. Unselect the ‘Show all’ option.

Internet Explorer v11 (PC)

1. From the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Internet Options.’
2. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab, then scroll down to the ‘Multimedia’ heading.
3. Unselect image-related options. Select ‘OK.’
4. If graphics still appear, select ‘View’ then ‘Refresh’ from the toolbar, or press F5.

Safari (Mac)

1. On the menu bar, select ‘Safari,’ then ‘Preferences.’
2. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab.
3. Make sure that ‘Show Develop menu in menu bar’ is selected.
4. From the menu bar, select ‘Develop,’ then ‘Disable Images.’

Change Window Size

Chrome (PC & Mac)

1. On a PC or Mac, select the Google Chrome menu, then next to ‘Zoom,’ select the ‘Full Screen’ button. Additionally, on a Mac, select the ‘View’ menu, then ‘Enter Full Screen.’
2. You can alternatively, on a PC, press F11 or on a Mac, press Control+Command+F.

Firefox (PC)

1. Select the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Full Screen.’
2. You can alternatively press F11.

Edge (PC)

1. Select the menu, then next to ‘Zoom,’ select the ‘Full Screen’ button.
2. You can alternatively press F11.

Internet Explorer v11 (PC)

1. Open the ‘Tools’ menu, then under ‘File’ dropdown, select ‘Full Screen.’
2. You can alternatively press F11.

Safari (Mac)

1. From the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Enter Full Screen.’
2. You can alternatively press Control+Command+F.

Other Visibility Customization Options

Chrome (PC & Mac)

1. On a PC & Mac, select the Google Chrome menu button, then ‘Settings.’ Under ‘Advanced,’ select ‘Accessibility.’
2. Additionally, on a Mac, from the Chrome menu, select ‘Settings,’ or ‘Chrome,’ ‘Preferences,’ or via the keyboard, Command+Plus sign (+). Under ‘Advanced,’ select ‘Accessibility.’

1. From the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Options.’
2. Select Extensions & Themes.

Internet Explorer v11 (PC)

1. From the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Internet Options.’
2. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab.
3. Choose from the options available to improve visibility.

Safari (Mac)

1. Select the ‘Safari’ menu, then ‘Preferences.’
2. Select the ‘Advanced’ tab, select the option ‘Never use font sizes smaller than’ option, and select a font size.
